What brand is this Beatle/Violin Bass

I'm thinking about getting this bass off of craigslist, but I can't see which brand it is. The seller claims it to be a hofner, but I know it isn't.

It's safe to say that it's not a Hofner.

The seller is not honest. Run the other way.

I'd take a guess and say it's from Japan.

For $175, it doesn't seem that bad

That looks to be one of the multitude of brands of Hofner copies that made their way from Japan to the USA in the 70's. It could be ok, or it could be a piece of crap. Stop by your local GC and try a Hofner Icon/Ignition as a reference point before checking out this oldie.

Personally, regardless of how it plays/sounds, I wouldn't pay much for this knock-off. Considering that used Hofner branded Icons/Ignitions are available in the mid-200's used, a brand X copy should bring half of that, tops. IMO, of course...

I found out it's an Ibanez bass.

A buck seventy five for a 70's Ibanez isn't bad assuming everything is in working order. A lot of those Ibanez lawsuit basses are quite nice.
