My dad owns an ignition and recently played the CT. I love the ignition - it may be made in China but it's flawless. Seriously, if you're set on a violin bass get the Hofner - I'd have to completely disagree with MooerBeer. I own an Epiphone and have also played a number of others; mine isn't a violin bass but the qc is poor, and knowing several people who work in Dawsons music they say the qc on epi's isn't all that. Hofner is definitely the way to go!
The CT is a stunning instrument! It sounds fantastic, I don't know whether it has the same pickups but it sounds quite different to the ignition. Shat I like is how thin it is - I know it's not fuly hollow but still being that thin means you don't get any feedback. The only thing I'd say is it depends on how you play. I was considering buying one of these after I'd heard this clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_-BRD94wEY
- but it sounded differently when I played it. Thing is the guy in the video plays with a pick and rests his wrist on the bridge, I play with fingers. It still sounded nice, but there was a difference.
You have a tough choice - the ct is a stunning instrument and if you use a pick I'd suggest you go with it. But I think the ignition is more consistent across the board.
