What Do You Guys Think of This Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
NEW LEFT HAND 46" NATURAL ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR | eBay

I like the fact it's made out of Basswood and not plywood. I don't care about the neck because I have a really sweet maple neck here with a vintage tint to it. (It's a blonde colour.) That will go together though, right?
OR I'm thinking THIS:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LEFT-HAND-46...32376897904304
With that blonde tinted maple neck.

The neck looks like this:

Which one goes together better with that neck?

I'm thinking of making this a "work in progress bass" and gradually upgrading everything to Fender parts.
I did the same thing to a P.O.S. Crescent bass and it sounds awesome but I can't wait to sell it!

I try to stay far away from any bass that is sold by the inch

It's also not a favorable sign when the seller does not state the brand name.

There are plenty of great deals to be found on proven quality used basses.

If the necks not made specifically as a direct replacement for a given bass, it likely wont fit the neck pocket correctly or at all. Youd be far better off saving up some money and getting a decent in all ways inexpensive complete bass. Probably used.

Whenever a bass on eBay is sold by the inch or the color, you can be sure it is a piece of garbage. Unless, of course, it gives good quality sound.

The first bass looks highly suspect..it's probably worth no more than it costs.

If you want interchangeable necks and bodies, stay with a major brand like Fender. Otherwise you have no clue whether anything will fit.

Oh I just bought an SX SPB57. I was just thinking of a project guitar but thanks for the FYI. I'd like to get just a Fender body but they're ridiculously expensive...Plus I'm a lefty so the selection is scarce...*Sigh*

That neck says it fits "Most P/J Style" basses, yet it looks like it has a fret board overhang? I would stay clear of that stuff.

If you want a Fender bass, buy a Fender bass. If you want to buy it gradually, lay one away. Buying that copy and gradually upgrading it will just waste your money.

you know whats funny, the seller of the neck bigfishforever, is a legit seller and I have always got that he was selling and his cheap chinese parts are perfectly usable. I never bought a neck like that but I can rest assure you will get what you see for 20-30 bucks, but it will be the cheapest junk on the planet and even if it could fit in the bodies you are choosing, all I would say is you can get a whole dumptruckload of firewood for 100.00 and not just a few pieces.

Only time will tell. Depends on your attitude towards the whole thing, really. I don't think anyone has every done these "projects" without making a mistake or fourteen. Good luck with the neck, as long as it has a truss rod that works, all is not lost. At worse you will have a bass that you can smash up at a gig at some stage.

If your dream bass is a Fender but it's too expensive right now, why don't you buy a Squire instead. It's made by the same company.

not at all. It will come and if it is not bad consider yourself in good shape because you may get a perfectly fretted and usable neck out of it. Like I said the items I have bought from them the parts have always arrived, and always worked perfectly.

Why don't you get an Essex (SX) bass?
They are at least decent and their whole getup is making the instrument really cheap so that there is plenty of money left over for upgrades.

Obviously, you're left-handed, so take a look at this...
Rondo Music Left Handed Bass Guitars

As for the quality of these instruments, there are tons of threads around here regarding this topic.
Just do a search for Essex if you're interested.
I have no personal experience with these, just passing on some info that may be helpful...

Edit:
Well I decided to read more of the thread and see that you are already aware of SX. Sorry! :P

Haha It's all good in the hood , brother! I can't wait to get my SX bass in on Wednesday. I know she's going to sound like a beaut.

Upon taking my Crescent bass apart, it's actually real wood and not plywood which amazed me. I decided to paint the body and headstock Pistachio and paint the pickguard primer gray.

I can't think of any bassist that has those colours and it's coming out awesome. I'm going to need to fine sand the body because there's little paint chunks which is why I hate krylon. Those damn paint cans always spit out crap and you can never get a perfect paint job.

To be honest man, I'm not big on Squier...I never was. I DO like the 3/4 size basses though because they're smaller and don't weigh a ton which is great for my back.

P.S. - I can't believe how my skills vastly improve on a day to day basis! I can play "Soul To Squeeze" by RHCP no problem now. God I love playing bass, it's so fun! Most enjoyable instrument I've played yet and I've played A LOT!

Just curious ... how is it that you provide a link to a Squier bass ad which you presumably saw, yet you still managed to spell Squier wrong?
