| | | | That certainly has interesting electronics and bridge for a wishbass. Only wishbasses Ive heard sounded like poo. But maybe this one would sound much better. Dunno that Id trust the no truss rod aspect of it though.

| | | It is the Stude model of Wishbass. Lots of nice upgrades for the price, I'd take a look if I lived in the area. Getting a true fingerboard is the secret with Wishbasses in my experience. They usually have a thick neck in lieu of a truss rod, let your hands be your guide.
Of course, I likes the Wishbass...

PS: Here's a Stude example. |

Some people hate them and really enjoy mocking them. Steve Wish didn't help his cause by posting a video of himself playing one and playing it badly.
Some people, including some very good players, love them and sound great on them.
The main thing is that finish quality is pretty poor - but if you're willing to do some finish work on it yourself, you can have a really nice instrument.

| | The albatross and the whales are my brothers. | | Join Date: Apr 2011 Location: Tulsa Oklahoma | | | I talked to him and the hipshot bridge and preamp are things he added. He also made the preamp cover. He updated the ad, so you should check out the woods and better pictures. He didnt mention in the ad that the fretboard is ipe. When you get to the ad, hit F5 and it should bring up the updates.
Im meeting him tomorrow to try it out. I think it would be an interesting bass to own. And if i could get it for 250, even better. Of course, its gotta play and sound good. Ha.
Any suggestions? Anything I should look for?

What is the oil wax finish mean? Will I need to do a routine upkeep on the body? Well besides the usual keep it clean and polished up. But anything different?

| | | Wood finishing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My experience of an oil finish is that it allows me to feel more of the wood, its grain and texture, while still protecting and sealing the wood from moisture. It might be more delicate than other finishes but so far, no problems.
Some of my other basses have the more common polyurethane finish; the clear ones show off the wood but give me a plastic coated feel. I think you could apply polyurethane thinly if you want some of that wood texture, thick poly is incredibly durable. Folks into the relic style basses have to work at it on a poly finish.
Check out the wishbass threads for more details on finishing, I'm one of the least experienced on board.
Good luck with the tryout!

| | twister of knobs, maker of squeaky beepy | | | | | The description and the pictures would indicate that this bass has had significant finish work done by the owner. It could be quite a player, and IMHO, worth the $300 they are asking. The Aguilar pre is $100 by itself......... If you like it in your hands, get it. You will not be sorry.

I have filled in for a buddies bluegrass band on an upright, but it was 4 notes the whole set. Ha. So nothing crazy there. But other than that, its new territory. It'll take some getting used to.
