Personally, I would...because I love Warwicks. I think it just depends on how you feel about the 6 string..will you miss having that extra string?

And something is amiss with the nut on that Warwick...might want to find out what's wrong with it. That's not a Warwick nut.

Agree across the board... you do need anwsers about that nut issue (Non-Warwick Nut, looks like bone, but even if it is, it doesn't hold a candle to the Just-A-Nut).

OH... about the nut, it has been upgraded with a bone one... (or at least is what he said)

Everybody has a different opinion about the Just-A-Nut. Personally, I'd prefer a JAN 3 to the bone nut.

Whether or not the bone is an "upgrade" is up to personal preference... I still stand by the Just-A-Nut over the bone, but it ultimately will be your call. At any rate, whenever a bass is modified in anyway it decreases it's re-sale (Ok, not every time, but in this case I would say so) and it might give you a little wiggle room to negotiate further. Just food for thought.

I have no use for a six-string or a five-string for that matter... but isn't the universal consensus that despite quality builds and great instruments, Carvins don't hold their value and Warwicks command better money on the used market? If that's the case, it might be a good trade just for the relative money value... BUT that's hardly the only factor at play, of course.

But still good to consider. In this diverse world, I always enjoy protecting my investment... cause only the Lord knows when GAS is going to strike!!!!!

Regarding value... I have seen similar carvins at TB going for about $600, the spirit new is $400 so lets say used in good condition $300 +- it goes to $900 on both basses, Warwick guys, what about the used warwick jazzman 5 string used price? PS he has the original nut piece as well...

That is GREAT he has the original nut. $900 is fair for the FNA Jazz considering they are a discontinued Warwick model... again, it really depends on how you value your basses and whether or not you can get everything out of the single 5'er that you could get from the Carvin and the spirit. I don't know your 2 basses well, but I know the reputation of the FNA Jazz is that it is a versatile MONSTER!!!

I gave up an MIA 60th Anniversary Jazz Deluxe V Fretless and $300 for a nearly 5 identical string FNA Jazzman (mine has the EXACT opposite hardware, all brass except the switch, which was replaced and is chrome ).

If the value of your two basses is about $1000, that sounds like better deal than I got.

I agree about the FNA Jazzman being a versatile monster. It took me a little while to get used to the controls, but once I did I really fell in love with it. Funny thing is, I think I actually like it best in passive mode (that's not a put down of it's preamp and it's active mode sound, which is also VERY nice).

A used Carvin will hold its value. A new Carvin will not.
