I'd like to use something other than a dry cloth to remove dust on my mahogany Ibanez. it's a natural finish and I don't want it to dry out over winter.

Lots of good products out there. Dunlap, Fender/Mcguire.

Lemon Pledge has silicon in it, I stay away from that, you don't want that on your finger board.

Some rubbing alcohol on rag to remove string grime works well. Commercially available string cleaners sometimes have a very light oil in them that makes the string feel sleek and reduces oxidation from skin oils.

Lemon oil or raw linseed oil for unfinished fingerboard to restore and protect. Wipe it on, let is soak in for a couple of minutes, remove what has not been absorbed.

Damp soft cloth to remove finger prints.

A good quality carnunba wax once in a while leave a finish looking very nice and protected.

Clean instrument is nice to touch, I hate playing someone's axe with layers of finger munge and grey green deposits around the frets.

Here's a radical idea...use something that's actually MEANT for this use.

Lemon Pledge, but if left on too long it will remove a thin layer of mojo.

I have lemon oil, but I figured that was only good for my rosewood fretboard. What about the mahogany body?

I'm not sure about that, because of the finish Ibanez uses on those basses. It wears pretty easily. I'd be concerned about the oil making it feel funky, and then being a pain to remove.

That goes double if you are in my neck.

Just don't be too thirsty, ok.

I use pure lemon oil on the rosewood fretboard, Fender guitar polish on the neck and body and Flitz metal polish for the hardware.

I only clean them when I have the strings off, about once every 2 or 3 months. I'll use a t-shirt dampened with ammonia water on finished areas and polish with Meguiars's cleaner wax. Sometimes Novus plastic clean and shine. I treat rosewood and ebony boards with "Feed-N-Wax" or lemon oil and clean the strings by soaking them in denatured alcohol. In between cleanings I wipe the sweat off with a dishtowel. In the old days I used Pledge but found that it contained silicon and would soften lacquer over the years.

Clean my bass?! I have never done such a thing....

However perhaps Windex...it cleans and can be used for just about everything right? (according to the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding)

A clean rag and a little elbow grease have always worked fine for me.
