Pardon my ignorance, but who is Bill Conklin? |

| | twister of knobs, maker of squeaky beepy | | | | | ^^^ I'm guessing there is a typo on that Yamaha page. It claims that this mic can transduce the low frequencies that other mics cannot, 100Hz to 2000hz. Something tells me they really meant 10Hz to 200Hz.

Well without some serious rattling going on.
Some engineers also use those to mic kick drums.

That isn't a snare drum, its a microphone. It's usually used on a bass drum and is a commercialization of an old studio trick of using a small speaker as a microphone for a bass drum to get a deeper tone. I think Yamaha sells it.
{one moment please}
