What exactly is so good about G&L basses?

All I hear on this forum is praise for it. I can't speak for playability, but man, do I HATE that sound. I watched Ed Friedland's video on the L2000, and despite the claims about versatility, it always had that ugly raspiness to it. What's so special about these?

Never played an L2000 but the QC on my JB that I had was fantastic.

So it's not your thing... don't buy one. For the rest of us, quality is as high as anything out there; tone is very unique and versatile; playability is superb. They've had their share of problems over the years, but when they are right, they are *really right*.

Besides, don't knock the tone till you've actually played it in a band setting. They aren't the best "bedroom" basses, so if that's your thing, you won't like them. Get 'em into a real mix and see what happens. It might surprise you. It did me...

I don't like Ed's review on the L2K too.

But I do love my L2500.

Slap some flats or ancient nickel rounds on that sucker, rasp be gone!

And the original G&L basses were fantastic.

To better answer your question, what kind of bass or bass tone do you prefer? Having something of a reference point would help.

I do believe both of you need to recheck the definition of a "troll thread." That said, this thread is pretty lame.

Because this thread starts in the negative, I call it trolling. There are better ways to learn about bass models.
