Just wondering. Might have a custom built and this two tone fretboard would look cool.

They look like either katalox, ziricote, or ebony with sapwood. They all can look very similar

Brian's right, but I think they've been using Ziricote as of late.

I have a general idea of how Ebony sounds but how do the other woods sound compared to ,say, rosewood?

Ziricote is apparently a lot like ebony- another name for it is "Mexican ebony." Not sure about katalox.

It's Zircote with sapwood. The third bass was briefly mine, a friend has it now. It's articulate like Ebony, maybe a bit warmer sounding.

Here's another one... my Buckeye Burl 5

Doesn't really show in these pics but it can have some pretty amazing looking grain... looks like chocolate mountains under a cloudy beige sky.

Would need to see, feel, hear it up close and personal-like. I've also seen Rose of the Mountain boards (MTD) and various types of rosewoods have similar color patterns.

It makes for a very nice stable, durable fingerboard. I'd definitely consider it again on another bass, along with Maple and Brazilian Rosewood and Ebony for fretless. These are my personal favorites.

Bryan R Tylers old elrick looks very nice with two tone fretboard. The other pics just look like damaged fretboards to me somehow. Maybe if I saw the rest of the neck...dunno
