The simplicity of the one pickup is very appealing to me but I'd like to remain open to other options. Maybe something sleeker than a P Bass. What are your suggestions, mangs? |

IMHO, there's nothing like a true P.

If you're not sure and you need a place to start, maybe getting a P-style bass and a J-style bass (new or used, Fender, Squier, Fernandez, Peavey, SX, etc.) would give you some initial versatility.
That is, unless you discover one bass that suits you best and fits your budget (such as perhaps a G&L, Music Man, Ibanze, Yamaha, etc.) that lets you dial all your sounds in.
What have you tried in the music stores?

| | | | A Peavey Fury from the late 80s or early 90s, after they went to the P-style pickup.
Not sure what you are looking for, but my 89 Fury is like a slimmer, lighter, sleeker P bass with a rather thin Jazz-style neck.
They are great, US made basses and can be found at really low prices.
If you are looking for a more boutique instrument, this is not the bass for you.

My BB300 plays and sounds a lot like a Fender P.

IMHO, there's nothing like a true P. | Well mang, the last time I played a P Bass was 12 or 13 years ago. It was a cheap Fender P Bass. It was my first bass and I had a lot of fun with it. I may find one in a music store and play it just to check it out.
The last bass I owned was a Aerodyne Jazz Bass and I liked the weight and feel of it. So that's why I'd like something with a single pickup but a lighter body and thinner neck than a P Bass. Quote:

What have you tried in the music stores? | I'm mostly into Metal. I haven't tried anything in stores yet and I'm not even sure if I will get a bass. I don't want to spend any more than $1000. Quote:

| | Hello Mangs | | Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Munchkin Land | | Well mangs, since I couldn't find exactly what I wanted from other Bass Makers, I just decided to buy a Fender Precision Bass. It's an American one from 2005. It's black with a black pickguard and rosewood neck. It also has a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in it. It was up for $900 + $40 shipping but I made an offer for $850. Got it for $890 all together with shipping. Do you people think that's a good deal? |

ON topic, for me nothing does *P* like a P- I also like slim necks, so my main P has a Jazz-width Allparts neck.
Edit: Not an awful deal, not screaming, IMO.

Off topic, it looks like your avatar is from the episode when Ren went temporarily insane over Stimpy's fan mail. That was a very powerful scene. |
