What is a good five string NEW 5 STRING BASSIST

Ok guys my band needs my to start playing five string. I have tried out many five string basses and I want to know what else is out there for under 1000 that is great for rock. All the basses I have tried are good but i don't want to miss out on a great bass.

Thanks,
John

For under 1000, i vote Lakland 55-01.
Lakland 55-02 if you can afford a few hundred more.

Try finding something that is a comfortable transition. Maybe you want less string space and a thinner neck to feel closer to a four string? If thats the case try some of the Ibanez sr basses. They always sound good in my opinion. If you want to get the best deal for your money and you can spend $1000 don't forget to check used gear!

I actually suggest wide spacing for comfortable transition from 4 to 5.
The narrow spacing makes it feel so foreign for me whereas wide spacing makes it feel the same with just 1 extra string.
Just IMO IME

Thats a good point. For me i can say that i personally prefer a wider neck with wider spacing between strings but when i made the switch all the five strings i had played felt like i was wrapping my hands around a tree trunk rather the bass.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

I'd suggest looking at a Peavey Millenium if you can find an MIA version. plays well, good hardware, all kinds of versatile sounds!

A Carvin B50. All the same electronics as the SB500, but a coupla hundred less. You can custom order it for less than $1,000. Tight B, insanely easy to play, great balance, less than 9 pounds and a comfortable and familiar 34" scale.

It has, from my experience, one of the absolute best and most comfortable necks of any bass I have ever owned or played, including basses that cost 4 times as much. Find a used one and you'll have money left over for something else. You can also find used SB5000's for less than $1,000.

But you have a lot of options at that price range.

I can recommend the Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V, which retails for around $1000-1100 in Australia (or at least it did when I bought mine. Not sure what musical styles you're into, but you might also try an Ibanez EWB205WNE. Yes, it's an acoustic, but it's got a fishman pickup system, and sounds beautiful when running through my Laney combo. It's around $900, and kinda offers the best of both worlds if you're into doing the odd acoustic jam as well as amped up and loud.

For all-purpose recommendation, my go-to would be the Yamaha BB425x.
