What is the grooviest sounding bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
i had a fender P bass, and it was ok but now Im looking for something that really makes you want to groove. I'm thinking about a musicman stingray because I want to cover some rage against the machine songs down the road.

i really like the bass sound in this katy perry song, do you think its a synth or would there be bass that sounds like this? Katy perry - Last Friday Night(T.G.I.F) with lyrics in HD - YouTube

thanks

The grooviest bass is the one played by the grooviest player. Sorry, but any bass can groove if you know how.

I wouldn't be surprised if that Katy Perry song was a keyboard.

The grooviest players in history played Precisions.

And, +1g for "The Groove Is In The Dude".

Groove is a very subjective term, also utterly vague unless you define it. Lastly, w/o even listening, I'd wager that any KP tune is entirely done by robot android burger-flippers on their day off, played on sub-$50 Casio keyboards w/multiple layers of heavy-handed auto-tune applied before & after EQ. No offense- she is a perky little trollop.

I know Miss Perry has a backing band when she performs, although why anyone would be looking at them instead of her..... talent.... is beyond me. Regardless, her bassist rotates between a J bass and a Stingray, so there's your answer. Incidentally, that's also what you need for the Rage sound (well, that and hand wound pickups, secret effects, and vintage amps, but you get the idea)

And parroting everyone else, the groove is in the fingers.

The grooviest sounding bass was a 1958 Longhorn. Not any Longhorn mind you, but just this one. It got burned to ashes in Dec 1971. Over in Montreux. So you can no longer get the grooviest sounding bass. So you are stuck like the rest of us, having to rely on our own playing and technique on any old bass we happen to have. So pick up any bass and start to groove.

The Groove is what you feel when you dig down into a song and play your heart out. When I want to "Groove" I use a Fender Jazz Bass because its the Groove Monster imo.
