What is a jazz "profile" neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender cowpoke bass that I just recently started playing again and was curious about the neck. It feels really nice to me and I prefer it over my regular p-bass. I did a search on here and someone said it has a jazz profile neck. I'm not sure what that means. Is it just a regular jazz neck? The neck is wide kinda like my p-bass, so i figured it was just a p-bass neck, but it does feel different. Enlighten me please

Jazz neck typically has a 1 1/2" nut width. P-bass has 1 5/8". Thinner neck. I prefer it. Just feels more comfortable to me.

The original width of the Jazz Bass at the nut was 1-7/16" which, IME, lasted through the mid-late '70s. Not sure when it was switched to 1-1/2".

It's not just the nut width, but the thickness of the neck front-to-back, and the back contour.
