Interesting vote. Amazing how many play 6 string fretted, even though I don't see that many around...

All 4-string fretted, except for a 5-string fretless that I keep in case I need either of those elements.

Maybe they are just playing low open chords on guitars...thinking how bassy this sounds! Wow!!!

I have 7 four stringers and one with 5.

Ken Smith BSR5-G,2 2010 Amer Jazz with Nordstrand NJ4SE pups, Geddy Lee Jazz. Music Man Bongo 4HH. My go to bass is the Bongo. That's what I have now. Gone through about 20 basses til I realized tone is in your hands. And the type of strings help. Started on 4. Went to 6. Back to 5. And now 4 string with Hipshot D Tuner.

Proud user of almost all types. Right now hanging on my wall is a four string fretless, a four string fretted, a 34" scale five string fretted, and a 35" scale six string fretted. Hopefully one day I can pickup a five and sixer fretless when the need arises!

At present I have the following basses in my possession.
MIK Spector NS2000/4 fretted four string
SSD (Spector) NS-4CRFL Czech made fretless four string
MIK Waterstone TP8/32 fretted eight string medium (32") scale
USA Hamer B12A fretted 34" scale 12 string bass

Have owned several 5 and 6 string basses, fretted and fretless, yet I would pick up a four string about 90% of the time. So they ended up being dust collectors. The Spector basses are usually my backup basses. Play the eight most, I have become quite fond of the 32" scale.
Peace,
Mike
