When was that picture taken? Brian is looking pretty good there... and I didn't know he even performed live anymore, much less playing bass.

Brian's original bass was a 1963-1964 P-bass.
White, white pickguard, rosewood fingerboard.
It was his main bass for the Beach Boys.

I'm with Jibudo: It's a Valley Arts Custom Pro. These are very nice basses with a "Dinky P" body. I barely escaped a local music store without buying one.

Agreed. Definitely a Valley Arts. They made some of the best Strats I've ever played. I've actually never gotten my hands on one of their basses, but their guitars that I've played are up there with Grosh and Anderson, so I'd expect nothing less from the basses.

A friend of mine was the tour manager for Brian Wilson's "SMILE!" tour. He was just as eccentric as ever, but put on one HELL of a show.

Apparently from 2007....I got it from this site: http://intermezzo.typepad.com/intermezzo/brian_wilson/

And thanks all for helping identify. It certainly looks like something by Valley Arts

That man is a musical genius... and, as with many geniuses, he's weird as a platypus.

Beach Boys = underrated. To me, the American Beatles.

I started the exact same thread a couple months ago.

It was deemed a Valley Arts bass.

I've been listening to the SMiLE album that he rerecorded a few years ago... it's so good. And his voice is great, he's got a great band backing him up on the live shows... would love to see him perform.

It took me a while to realize this too. Just late to the party. Beach Boys=Very Cool!

Heroes & Villans my favorite Beach Boys tune.

Agreed! I wasn't really much into The Beach Boys up until a few years ago, I definitely dig 'em. Amazing harmonies.

Oops! I tried the search function (somewhat), I swear
I guess I just gave up too easy. By the way, that's a much better pic than the one I got! Also I would love to see him live as well

I saw footage of him singing "God Only Knows" a few years ago, but somebody else was playing bass (and unfortunately, buried in the mix). They had a string section and the whole schmear. That song still gives me chills every time I hear it.

I have believed since 1964 that The Beatles was The Beach Boys of Great Britain.

Seriously, i think The Beatles was great. But i must say The Beach Boys is the greatest name in rock-related music to me!
