What is the least amount of money you have payed for a Rickenbacker 4003?

Me and a friend were chatting about rickenbackers and he said what do you reckon the cheapest 4003 cost? So I thought I'd ask the lovely TB community. What is the cheapest you've ever bought a 4003 for?

Note: If you bought a broken/damaged 4003, you must including the prices (if any) that you payed to repair it.

This would be a better question to ask in the Rickenbacker Club topic, because it's been discussed there. There are talks of people buying ricks under 1k, but i've never seen it. There are ricks for sale, 1,000-1,200 fairly often

Less than a decade ago, used Ricks were popping up on ebay for well under $1000, with the typical price being $650-800. I bought my near mint lefty '79 4001 about 8 years ago for $899.

I traded a Peavey Cirrus 5'er for a Ric. So that means I got this Ric for around 7-800. Of course I swapped the pickups with the newer ones with adjustable pole pieces, but even then, I'm still below what a used Ric normally goes for.

One of my band mates was given a Rickenbacker by a neighbor for free. So I have heard of people getting them for free.

I paid $800 for a nice 4001FL last year but had to put another $200ish in it to get it up to speed.

870.00+shipping on Ebay, for my '03 4003 on April of 2004.

I also got a free practice amp, which I promptly gave to my friend for letting me use his Ebay account and getting it shipped to his apartment.

That two week wait SUCKED.

I paid £900 new for mine back in '04, which was a very fair price here in the UK at the time. I sold it this year for £1200 because I just wasn't playing it at all.

Not a 4003, but I bought a '78 4001 with a Ric hardshell case for $400 a few months ago... It doesn't need any repairs, per se - and plays quite well - but it has EMG pups instead of the originals... I'm still debating on whether to play it as is, buy Ric pups and put it back to being somewhat original, or flipping it for a profit - since I'm lucky enough to have plenty of other basses to play, and don't really need the money, I haven't given the matter much thought... I have gigged it a couple of times, and got some compliments on it...

Allowing for inflation, that price is equivalent to $2,200 today

A bought a very late 80's or 1990's great playing, flawless Fireglow (it had more of a salmon pink look towards the center) 4003 for $550 through Sam Ash in '92. It had a metal cover (I filed it down) as opposed to the plastic one I got later which was a new (2 month wait) 4003 Fireglow in 2000 for $1400. It was an awful, hideous piece of wood and made differently than the older one I owned. Traded it for a big drumset, cymbals, stands, and a 14x8 maple snare.
