Hat-tip to THIS THREAD, which has given us these gems: Quote:

One listed a T-40 for $250 and no pics. It came with the case, which was nice, but once they opened the case, I saw the most awesome/horrible "refin" attempt ever. It was a natural finish with a maple board.
The refin consisted of apparently using a blowtorch to scorch the edges of the front of the body (for a faux burst effect, I think) and for good measure, using the blowtorch to scorch the word? title? bandname? "F*ckstar" on the back.
The guy showed it to me with a straight face. I offered $200 but they wouldn't come down. I wish I would've had a cell phone camera back then to record it for all time... | How can you even top that? That's just... priceless. If anyone with sense did that to a bass, they wouldn't even attempt to sell it again. No, scratch that. No one with sense would do that to a bass.
Any others? Share your horror stories with me.

I want a bass that I can play while hiding under my bed...

| | | WHy idiots should not own bandsaws.
THis is a gem from my local craigslist, and yes has been up there for 4 years I think.
Description used to be how amazing it was and how awesome customized it was by an expert and how nothing can top it.
now it's just
"Custom bass 240.00 "
I'd pay him 50 to burn it.

| | | | lolz and also tears. It makes me wonder what anyone is envisioning when they start up that bandsaw and then shear an entire chunk out of the body as if the final product will still continue to fit the design aesthetic. Do they picture something good coming out of that in their mind?
And how could you ask for a few hundred bucks for something you've just ruined? That's amazing to me.

| | | Not so sure about exibit number one here.
Take a minute and think about it in the proper context...think crushed velvet trousers in black, nehru jacket cut from tangerine brocaded silk, wire rim granny glasses with blue lenses, black patent leather square toed zipper boots, and a bowl haircut, and don't forget the big assed swinging peace sign medallion, and that cut up T-40 would look right at home.
The only thing that would make it a better fit in that setting would be if it was hand painted with blacklight paints.
Just sayin

| | | This one made me wince, just because it was done to such a nice bass in such a ham-handed way. Who in their right mind would do this to a beautiful Roscoe Beck Signature? http://lh6.ggpht.com/_0eO9vkrkqGE/Sy...6_095139AA.JPG
