What was my first bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
This is embarassing, but in 1985 I bought my first bass, which was a Yamaha, $400 Canadian with a hardcover case. (Or was is $600? Can't recall.) Passive, in any case. No batteries needed.

Anyway, what kills me is that I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. I sold it 16 months later, the idea being that I would stop noodling around in my room and start concentrating seriously on my studies. And I did, in fact, get my degree, but I stopped playing bass until 16 months ago, just after I turned 41. A 23 year hiatus.

Now could someone please help me figure out what bass that might have been? I distinctly remember the guy at Buckley's music shop in Halifax, Nova Scotia (now defunct, alas... (Buckley's, not Nova Scotia)) saying that it was made in Japan, 'but still , it's not bad'(!!). (Back in the early 80s, some might remember, 'Made in Japan' still had a questionable ring to it. I laugh now when I see all those 80s Squiers going for over a thousand on e-bay!)

Any takers?

I think almost definitely. It looked just like the black BB414. Was that around back then?
