Hat is the best oil to use on a fretboard,is the guitar oil best?or should I buy some oil that is at wall mart that works better in most cases,also my bass is fretless. |

| | | I've used Yamaha Bore Oil (lightly) on my fretless; it is a light oil designed to seal the inside of woodwinds from humid player breath. No smell, won't go rancid since it is a synthetic.  I've just gotten to use some Gorgomyte™ to clean up a nasty fretted board. It removed all hand gunk, shined the frets, conditioned the wood, and got me a beer. I am very impressed with this product.
OK, everything but the beer...

I follow up with a wipe of Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil gunstock oil.
The gunstock oil was at the recommendation of Ernie Ball for maintaining my StingRay fretless. It dries pretty fast and doesn't get slimy when the humidity goes up. |

I wouldn't use anything else at this point. This of course presumes you're not talking about a hard-finished fingerboard. For the neck itself, I really like the B-C Tru-Oil and their Wax.

Never heard of it!  Just kidding. Any way I used Murphy's oil soap to clean up a old Peavey Dyna- Unity bass that I had with the natural wood finish. Talked to a furniture/ wood craft supply store here in Grand Rapids. They Recomened that I use Tung oil and I did for the body. Not sure though if that would be ok for the fret board?
