What Shade of "Sunburst" Is YOUR 2010 MIM Precision Standard

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, I am ready to spring for one of these, but there is a good chance I will have to go long-distance sight-unseen to get the deal I'm looking for.

No local examples to look at.

I am noticing some disparity between the "sunburst" finishes on the 2010 run of MIM Fender Precision Standards.

Here is the official mug shot in what is being termed "brown burst"

And here is a 2010 being sold used

The first example seems more brown to me, but the second example seems more 3TS, I see some red and yellow in there.

Anyone have an example of their own 2010 MIM Standard P in "burst" as reference and can chime in , or anyone who has anything useful to offer, thanks in advance.

They lok the same to me. I can see red in the first example as well. Plus the lighting in the second one is under darker, normal house lighting as apposed to studio photography lights.

my criteria w/ sunbursts is I don't like seeing much (if any) of the red/yellow in the upper horn. Also the darker over all the better . . .

most of the bursts look the same model to model though these days . . . not likely a mim burst from 2010 and 2011 will be all that different. . .

Is there really a difference between a MIA and MIM body? Lets say the neck is off, pickguard off, pickups and pots/electronics out...what would be the difference? The grade of alder?

And finish quality. MIA bodies are usually lighter as a result

I had the same thought. The stock photo is not as good or detailed. The used seller took a better pic under better light.

I'm no burst expert, but I thought a "brown burst" (as it's advertised) would not have such distinct yellows and reds.

Yea I'm not sure, sunburst colors coordinating with name don't seem consistant. AFAIC there's 2 tone and 3 tone.

Well, I just came back from the GC at the far end of town, and I'll be damned if the 2010 MIM Standard P Bass is not a three-tone sunburst. There is clearly a yellow-orangish center, red zone, and into darkest brown/black.

Just ordered one. Should get here by Friday, I'll post pics.
