What is it so special about a stingray's neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I used to own a MIJ jazz and a stingray, both had similar action and nut height, both have rosewood fingerboard but it seems that the stingray was much more comfortable to play with.

For example im playin master of puppets intro the part where u have to fret the 1st three frets continuously i found it much easier on the ray. Also when plucking near the bridge, I found the ray's tension was lower than the jazz's(dead stiff).

Im no luthier or anything and its been puzzling me for awhile, thought someone can help

At least stingray's neck is a bit thicker, which I personally prefer.

In your case it might be down to setup: neck relief, string height, saddle height and also brand and gauge of the strings.

I know what you mean. I owned a stingray and a Jazz and P bass, and all 3 were set up by the same tech. The stingray was always easier to play. It just felt comfortable to me.

Could be the fret size and the radius, too. Personally I find Warwick necks far more playable than Stingray necks, but that's my preference.
