What's the best 5 string bass for the modern country sound?

I'm an old rocker that has landed a position with a really good country band that works regularly. I need a 5 string bass. Any ideas or suggestions?

G&L Tribute L-2500

The non-usa cheap model (but still has the Fullerton-made G&L Magnetic Field Design humbucking pickups) and does very well in my modern country/classic rock band.

this is probably the best answer lol...country guys tend to be on the conservative side and i think a good old P bass is what a lot of them like to see. i used my warwick $$ at a bluegrass gig once and got several comments about its "funny" looks. imagine if i had brought my Bongo!

i guess it all depends on whether you want to fit in or shake things up. i could go either way depending on my mood that day haha.

I am SO close to breaking down and buying one of the new American Standard Precision V. I have been playing 4- and 5-string Jazz basses for 20 years, but only since my Precision was stolen from my vehicle. Been waiting for Fender to finally make the 5-string P-bass. Now is certainly not a good time financially for me to spend the bucks, but DAMN IT I want one.

I tried the Fender 5 str P and the neck was just too big. I also tried a EBMM Stingray 5. It felt good and was about $1750. Sorry about not giving the budget. I want to keep it below $2000. I can't afford to sell my other kydney.

I found it hard to find a 5 string i liked. I guess the best way is to test out as many as possible and find which one has the best playabilty, you can always alter tone post buy with some different electronics. Lakland and Yamaha seem to suit me best. I missed out on buying a Lakland 55-01 because i went home from my local music store to think on it, and it was snap up by the time i returned to buy it. Fortunately for me, they had just received a Yamaha TRB1005J in the store which played like a dream but didn't sound as nice as the Lakland. I still bought it on playability alone and a few mods later, its now sounding like a high end professional bass . I also really liked Marleaux but they're wwwwaaaayyyyyy out of my budget.
