What's the precise model of this Ibanez Prestige?
I'm not buying because it's a 5 and I'm not coming to the States this year anymore but I'm very interested in the exact model of the bass. The seller lists it as Ibanez SDGR 501-98 which isn't right of course and obviously not custom by any stretch of the imagination as anyone who's had a late 90s Ibanez knows.
To me it looks like an old version SR5005, which was offered in '98 as the SR5005MM except the top is way darker and more figured than the '98 catalogue model (http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1998/98042.jpg). Funnily enough in the catalogue there's a 1016 model with the same body (http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1998/98043.jpg) and they call that a SOL. So what I'm seeing in that auction would be something like a '98 SR 5005 SOL.
Anyway that bass looks as beautiful as any bass I ever saw so I was wondering if I could find one in a four string configuration with that same top :) I've been a Warwick man for 4 years now but in my heart there's always room for a Japanese made Ibanez :)
Also, it's sold now...anyone confess to that? :)
Uh, the ad says "501-98 custom made bass" That tells me it is a 501..... and that it is custom made. So it should not match any existing model you can find. That's just my logical brain hard at work.
(Of course the guy could be full of crap, but that would throw off any model search as well.)
There's no SR501 :) Not even an SR510.
But let's trust the seller enough to read the serial number properly and count on it being 1998. It looks exactly like a 1998 SR5005MM except with the top/finish resembling another model offered on the same year. The mini switches are retrofits because the preamp and pups have been swapped, otherwise it's straight from the catalogue.
It's not custom made that's for sure. All non-entry range instruments from Ibanez around the late 90s had that "Custom Made" inlay. I've had a bunch of guitars with the inlay that were absolutely not custom and you can see that in the catalogue as well, all of them have it yet they're all mass production models.
