I do like the black body with white pickguard, and chrome hardware look. It looks classic. | This classic ? |

| | | | I think that a fully black coated bass can either look very mysterious/intriguing or boring and dull, depending on the shape of the body and the headstock. If the bass has something to it in its structure that differentiates it from the "general guitar" look, then a black coating can look great. I own a Warwick Corvette in black and I think it looks great. I'm not a big fan of black Fender P-basses or squires, I feel like they're just lacking a bit of that umph in their style.
But in the end it all comes down to personal preference.

Loved the SUB bass but sold both a while back. I accumulated a bunch of parts over the years and then started wanting to learn more about how to fix and setup basses so ended up building a few basses using parts basses that people sold/abandoned. Ironically, I ended up putting together my main bass as a result which is....yep, black.....Then, I came across a great Squier Pro Tone PJ bass that's also black.....

I prefer my basses in JetGlo or FireGlo, personally

I'll be adding a Babicz bridge in, you guessed it, black.
I guess I could do black hardware, knobs and strings and go all the way.
I love my VS Fenders, but my next bass will be black.
Nothing more black.

I'm not rich, so color and style isn't something I can necessarily make considerations for, nor is it of significance to me. That said, my main player, a Squier CV P in sonic blue I think is one of the ugliest colors I've seen on a bass. It looks like toothpaste. Bluh. She makes beautiful, fun and enjoyable music though, that's what I dig about it.

Good folk, lock up your son and daughter
Beware his deadly flashing blade
Unless you want to end up shorter
Black Adder, Black Adder, he rides a pitch black steed
Black Adder, Black Adder, he's very bad indeed
Black: his gloves of finest mole
Black: his codpiece made of metal
His heart is blacker than a hole
His pot is blacker than his kettle
Black Adder, Black Adder, with many a cunning plan
Black Adder, Black Adder, you horrid little man.
They don't mention this but his Standard Jazz V is blacker than his Deluxe Active Jazz.
I don't find black basses to be boring!
