Not in my opinion. It will fit and work, yes. But you can "feel" the difference between a MIM and a MIA neck.

I just built a P bass. Warmoth P body and an Allparts blocked and bound Jazz neck. Gigged it last Friday night and it was great!

I put a Jazz neck on a P bass and put a P neck on a Jazz bass. I did it just for the hell of it and they both work great! No problems at all.

I wish Fender offered P basses with Jazz necks. I know about the P-bass Specials (I own One). I wish I could buy a brand new American P with the option of a Jazz neck.

In the mid 70s it was an option on production basses. It was even listed in their price list. I don't know about later because that was the only time I ever looked at their price list.

I have a '75 P that came stock with a maple "A neck", basically a Jazz neck with dots instead of blocks. So, yes, Fender has been doing this for a long time. Last Sunday I put a rosewood MIJ '62 RI Precision neck on it. East meets West, 70's vs. 90's, fits like a glove.

I'm pretty sure that if you went to a Fender dealer and ordered one, they could do it but it would probably cost you full list price.

A-neck on P-body

Take a look at the Lakland Duck Dunn aka 44-64 Custom. That's exactly what it is. It comes in US made and the Asian made Skyline version.

Neck swap is easy, I have done it on all of my P basses. All work out well because I like the feel better.

Absolutely. I recently put a 2011 American Special J neck on my 2003 USA Precision. Granted, just getting a new neck at all after 10 years of heavy gigging was a great improvement, but the 1.5" nut and the "slim C" shape have taken playing my trusty ol' Precision to a new level of pure joy. I love the J neck, but I greatly prefer the P sound, so there you have it.

Also, +1 on the Lakland 44-64 custom. Quite the awesome machine.

'76 owner w/ "A" neck right here, 1-7/16" at the nut.
Mine has side marker dots where the frets are (instead of inbetween) indicating my neck started life as a fretless and someone actually had the neck fretted. Wierd, but the bass plays great.

That seems to be the ideal for me. I have been wanting a Duck Dunn Lakland for some time.
I also have a couple of P-Bass Specials that have the Jazz neck. Much preferred.

Late last year, I bought a C-V Squier P and then swapped necks here on TB for a VM Squier Jazz - bound and blocked. The result is fantastic! Maybe I don't need the Dunn after all.
