as a young teen in the early 80s I saw this (on HBO I think) and thought that was exactly how a bassist should sound AND look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htz9CS-Zmms
Then this hit the scene and I was hooked on pointy basses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHA1Cv9XsBk
(no I'm not comparing the bands... but I was 15 years old in 1983 and as cool as the Who are, they were still my Mom's music |

A bit less on the pointy scale, but still sharply angular, a Fender Performer fuels that fire as well.

Everyone has seemed to have forgotten these bad boys: http://www.edroman.com/detail_sheets...bass_d786.html
And, IMHO, how could one forget these? The king of pointy basses, taken to another level. I'd love to have one of these with B.C.Richs' "full on" electronics, with 2 P-pups: http://losangeles.backpage.com/Music...-bass/23461109 |

I like the ergonomics of forearm cuts, the simplicity of universal cases, the freedom from neck dive, and being able to take a bass to any gig I want without looking terribly out of place.
I'm admiring them from a distance currently, but maybe someday I'll put together an Explorer or something fun to rock out with. |

Used to have a 70s BC Rich Mockingbird which is probably the highest-quality instrument I've ever owned, definitely the highest-quality electric one. Now I have a very very pointy Hembry doubleneck and use it to play happy pop songs about Adriana Lima - the combination looks absurd but that makes it even more fun. Maybe it provides good balance against my own stout, non-pointy looks.

I remember a guitarist who used the same practice place having a Washburn Dimebag guitar and the case was about the same length as my bass case and significantly heavier. |
