Those are great instruments. The guitar version is especially nice.

I don't think they sold very well. If I had to guess, I'd say people had a hard time warming up to a bass with a styrofoam body.

It sucks when something you really like is discontinued....Tostitos Cheddar Cheese flavor, Doritios Taco Flavor (Original), Lipton Orange flavored Iced Tea, Best's Kosher Jumbo Dinner Franks, BooBerry and Count Chocula, just to name a few.
I feel your pain.

What!!!! No love for Frankenberry?

By the way you can find all 3 of the GM Monster cereals at almost any Target or Wal-Mart super center around Halloween each year.

They still make them.

These were, if my memory serves correctly, the Yamaha bases that had the light up bass and treble knobs. I liked that feature a lot.

Yamaha is famous for introducung gear and quickly discontinuing them. They had something going with their version of a micro bass amp and those 1x10 cabs. The amp just needed a fan redesign to keep it cool and allow the amp to use the 500w at 4ohms instead of 2ohms. They refused to do so, so sales fell off. Those basses were well made and sounded good. The lighted knob feature was pretty cool. Just didn't sell well enough.

+1

Yamaha has never made any sense to me. It's like they don't want to sell gear sometimes.

Those were nice basses, designed to be lightweight. I had a 5 string version. Sounded like a jazz bass, weighed about 8 pounds.

Yeah, that's the new "Original" flavor. Isn't the same as the Taco flavor from the 70's. The new one has a sour cream like taste wheras the old ones were more chili-powerdy tasting.
No comparison if you knew the old ones.

I forgot about Frankenberry! Didn't see any of those others either at my Wal-Mart just a few weeks ago when I bought my last box of cereal. (Cap'n Crunch)

The local Long & McQuade in Nanaimo has an orange one. The only difference is that the pickups have chrome mounts that spice it up a bit.
