I find the older Squier/Fender maple necks are the bomb with rolled edges and nice fretwork.

This doesn't answer your original question - just a comment. For some reason, I think every Fender Jazz I've ever owned has had a rosewood board except for my AV '75 Reissue.

Conversely, almost every P-Bass I've ever owned has had a maple board. That just seems to be the pattern that hits my "hot button"...

I think the OP means he can't find any USED basses with maple fretboards. Perhaps because maple is so awesome that nobody wants to sell theirs (except all those in TB classifieds, of course)...

Says the guy who does not own a bass with a maple fretboard.

There are a bunch that are made but, as most people just buy what's on the rack in the store, the used market is definitely saturated with rosewood boards. My local stores keep 1 or 2 basses in stock with maple boards, but they hang on the wall for months. There's even a MIJ Fender 70's P that's been on the wall for a year.

I prefer maple boards but, in order to get my 2 Spectors (pre-2012) I've had to sacrifice this option to get the rest of my tonal package.

Perhaps one reason why it's hard to find a used bass with a maple fingerboard is because they're good basses and owners don't want to part with them!

The only thing I've ever had trouble finding in maple is Gibson and Ibanez.

Yep, they are rosewood lovers for sure.

Why would you shop anywhere but the TB classifieds?

A friend of mine called GC and found a G&L L2500 Tribute with, of course, a maple fretboard. He has been looking at quite a few used basses and IMHO half or more had maple f/b.

I've had rosewood, I've had maple, and I've had ebony. I prefer ebony, but with all the electronics today, pick you one you like - no problem.

I will definitely check them out, thank you. I'm really only trying to find a used jazz bass with a fretted maple neck to replace my VM fretless jazz. I acquired it for next to nothing from a friend and after giving fretless a fair try, I just don't like it. I kind of knee this would happen but for how much I got it for, I couldn't pass up the deal.
