Why Spector build all his basses with the same shape?

Just wondering why Spector basses are all the same shape. They just build a copy of jazz bass and thats all...

it would be interesting if they build other models...dont you think??

To me, the NS shape IS a Spector. I found it quite interesting when Stuart entered the J bass market that appeared to be crownded. However, the Coda is selling quite well. That speaks loudly to the build quality and j bass design.

Agreed. The NS shape is SPECTOR. Why mess with perfection.

I had a USA Coda for a while and it was a great bass. I miss it actually.

Not true USA models:
Forte 4X
Forte 5X
Korean Line:
Legend 4X
And then the Rex Brown models
The original NS design to me is the best body design of all time BTW…

That's all that's needed. If you prefer different body shape purchase another brand and put Spector electronics in it. I'm more than pleased with Spectors body shape.

they have the NS, the Coda, the RXT and the X

all fender has is the Precision and the Jazz, why don't you go complain about them instead

he tried to do some other shapes. they didn't sell too well (BOB, SD). he's making what the buying public wants from him. incidentally he did introduce a Telecaster body style this year. So now he has:

The NS shape (in bolt on, hollow body, set neck, and neck through varieties)
The Rex body shape
The Tele shape
The Jazz shape (in traditional and deluxe varieties)
The NS-X shape

that's a pretty decent variety.

At one time, I was wondering why he was building body styles other than the NS style. Until I played a coda. Its a great jazz bass.

In terms of sales, the NS shape has been the bread & butter for them. Similar to how the P and J have worked for Fender for so long.

I really liked the SSD from the early 1990's when I tried it at the Music Emporium, but they didn't sell too many.

Well, maturanesa, what would YOU like to see him make? You're the one with the problem here. So tell us what advice you have for Spector? I'm sure he would love to read it.

By the way, Spector didn't even create the NS by himself. That "NS" stands for Ned Steinberger.

The Rex Brown models have a modified Thunderbird shape- perhaps thats what you're thinking of.

Precision, Jazz, Mustang, Jaguar, Telecaster

4 body styles for fender basses.
4 for Spector.

I think the OP's quandry is why MOST Spectors are the NS shape. I think it's because it's iconic for the brand. Much like Strats & Teles scream Fender, Les Pauls scream Gibson & Thunderbirds scream neck dive.

I have these three...

A Euro LX4, a Rex Pro and a USA NS-2J. They all work great for me and are very different shapes. Maybe someday I'll add a Coda and a TRex and a Spectorcore, that would bring the mix to six different basses, not shabby by anyones standards.

And before you get all Fender defensive, I also have these basses...

I count six basic body shapes in the picture and one of them isn't even offered by Fender anymore.

I also have a couple of Alembics and they have about 15 different bass styles. Maybe Fender needs to step it up a bit.
