I like the almost blonde looking fingerboard. Are you gonna do anything to it?

Probably going to change the shape of the top horn a bit, at least round it out some more, maybe make it more like the bottom horn. Definitely going to take some sandpaper to it and refinish it.
Possible ideas, A different pickup, maybe put an orange drop cap in it, add metal ferrules. Coat the fretboard?

There's a very nice looking Lobe with a funky lower horn up on eBay right now. Great looking wood. Anyone know what kind it is?

I think the funky looking one is the one that he thought had come from a maple tree that was struck by lightning. It was from a unique piece of wood, and he said that he had never seen anything quite like it.

I wish I could shell out for it.

I LOVE that burnt one! If only it were a 5er! Basses with true stories get to me every time.

If you mean this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wishbass-5-s...item1c2dfca058

the body is Ambrosia maple (infested by the Ambrosia beetle), the fingerboard is maple, and the referenced luthier is... ME! Seller is the guy I sold it to.

Birthing of a Hyper (Hipper), in this case #1398b. This is getting exciting! (I still have more general smoothing and shaping to do, but this is close) ...

Since I do not own a proper bandsaw, I used my pitiful little Black & Decker jig saw to cut out the body, and while very slow, it worked. Then I cleaned her up on my spindle sander and the Dragon rasps. Viola!

As promised, a couple shots from other angles:
http://s1105.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=0
http://s1105.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=1
http://s1105.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=2

EDIT: I realized that the pickup was actually not aligned with the strings (more on the "E" side that on the "G" side). To compensate, i stuffed some foam under the G side of the pickup. It still sounds weaker but the tone im getting out of this monster will never cease to blow my mind.
