Hello any and all,
I was just wondering about the value of a Tobias five string I bought used nearly twenty years ago. It has the "airplane wing" neck. Each body wing is made of two pieces of koa with a thin layer of wenge sandwiched between them. The through neck is wenge with two strips of purplewood (that's what I call it because...it's purple) and a very thin piece of holly, I believe, in the center. The serial number stamped on the back of the headpiece is 657. It also has a glassy finish.
First of all, where does it fall in the Tobias chronology? I imagine California before the "Gibson" sale, i.e. late 80's early 90's, but I'm not sure. Secondly how do I interpret the serial #?
As soon as I can figure out how to add attachments, I'll put some pictures up.
Any thoughts on the above and estimates of it's value are greatly appreciated.
