In the works at Brubaker...

A couple of interesting developements. Let me know what you think.

Prototype for the new "Brubaker etc." jazz bass:

bolt-thru neck joint

sculpted headstock

I get asked on a regular basis if Kevin builds basses with more than six strings. The only reason he hadn't up to this point is because nobody placed an order for one...

Brubaker 10 string:

Getting ready for a gig...

that 10 string looks a bit odd, body looks far too out of proportion with the neck.

I like that "neck-through-bolt" joint. Sort of hybrid neck joint?, haven't seen that before, very smooth looking.

Pretty much. If you make the body proportional to the neck, the body will likely be two feet wide.

I was actually admiring how "normal" that body looked for a 10 string. kudos! That first 4 string shown, is that an ash neck?

neck

Ditto on the neck joint. I came up with that idea years ago but have yet to have a custom built. Why not have better access to the upper frets since you have that great neck joint?

I'll pass that question along. I know he decided to keep this at 22 frets to maintain a feel and playing position similar to a 70's Fender Jazz.

Kevin's been doing this neck joint for almost 20 years now.

This actually went pretty quick from idea to execution.

Oh. My. Lord. That burst around the guard is KILLER! My ONLY gripe about the appearance of that Jazz is the knobs. Easily switched, though.

Same here.

But that body looks awfully small compared to the neck. Maybe it's because it's not finished yet (my eyes are strange) and it looks that way. Though when I see 10-strings, the body is usually bigger than that 10-string I see in the picture.

EDIT: Like everyone else that liked the finish, same goes for me. It looks epic on that jazz! And to me those knobs give the bass a vintage feel to it IMO.

Thanks. BTW those are the stock Bartolini knobs. I'd imagine custom knobs will be available.

What a fantastic finish! I already had GAS for a Brubaker, but it just got a LOT worse...

I just got done playing this thing for a couple hours(harmonics are unreal). I can't wait to play it live on a gig this weekend! It definitely has something going on tonally.

HMM, I love the finish EXCEPT for the burst around the guard. That's just me though.

Literally the ONLY thing wrong with that bass is the two round string tees.
Pleeeeease, just use one of those long bar ones, it'd look so much cleaner.

Kevin never ceases to amaze me....the last thing we need is another J bass out there.....that's what I thought until I saw Kevin's take on it. Very nice. The only other J I'd consider would be a CallowHill Junk.
