Looks more like an "acid-spill" bass to me than a relic. But that's why there are so many different flavors of ice cream. To each his own...

I am usually a thumbs down guy for relicing ... but I like this one and the price is quite reasonable ... But if he put that many hours into it and is selling it that cheap then did he do the relicing for free?

But in the overall picture I won't be bidding on this one.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

I think taste in relic job is very much in the style of the beholder.
I generally don't like the concept but I must say the Fender Road Worn were great instruments, particularly in the first year they were produced.

Here I don't mind the finish but I find too much contrast between the brand new hardware and the paint job. Price for relic is on the low side of things compared to a Nash. Different animals for sure that being said.

Looks like the poor thing was lit on fire or put in a oven...however it is cool looking and indeed unique until you see another just like it or close to. Yeah I agree they could of aged the hardware...that and the coating over the relic look gives it away that it is not a true road worn relic. But you get what you pay for and it seems to be a pretty decent bass too. Obviously some people dig it because they are selling them.

That's what I like about it...couldn't careless of any "real" of "artificial" reliced basses, as the concept of this eludes me...but this one looks cool. I'd finger it.

A lot of people apparently confuse 'relic' with 'water damaged'....

I guess if they could get it to look like my '66 P-bass or my '74 Jazz for the price I'd most likely buy one

That's what I would do.....gotta preserve it just like that. I'd also throw in EMGs & a JRetro.

My thoughts exactly. To me it would look hundred times better

with aged chrome hardware and beaten PG. Now who has a

minute and some photoshop skills

Maybe, but parts of it look to me like the guy was stabbing it with a steak knife or something.

Wow. Really surprised so many like that thing. Maybe he should swap the word "relic" for "acid splashed" or "nuclear blasted" and it would be more appropriate.

This is what a fake "relic" should look like:

I think it's kind of cool looking actually. Not convincing as a relic by any means, but I'd totally rock that finish on a P.

Yeah, I don't get what was supposed to have happened to the bass in the OP. How many old basses are there that look like that? Rescued from a fire? Flood? Zombies with blowtorches? What?

^ That's the thing. You see all sorts of wacky wear on vintage instruments, but faked relics need to follow typical wear patterns lest they look fake.

I don't get the idea that this is somehow a good deal. It doesn't look like much time was spent on that relic. When builders who specialize in relic-ing go at it, they take lots of time to replicate natural wear patterns and make it look authentic with all the little details and intricacies. That's not what was done here. They took a $250 bass and did something to it.

I wish I could pick up a bass like that (no matter what the finish) for $250, in fact 250€ or 250gbp would still make me happy!

My favorite part about this is in the first line of the add.."Don't let this slip away..you know how rare it is to see a relic bass here.."
