Do you mean ordering it from their website or buying it in person?

Look it over before you buy it.

My best, favorite, and most often played bass is a used guitar center find. Some of their used prices are ridiculous, some are perfectly reasonable. Go for it. Worse case scenario, return it.

Edit, mine was an in store purchase. If you buy it online, they'll charge you to ship it to either you, or your local store. If you're buying it from a guitar Center store that's in another state, call them to buy it because the shipping cost over the phone for some reason is less than the shipping cost online.

Most of the used basses I have purchased over the years have come from Guitar Center. I found their prices to be inconsistent but have also found some great deals.

Bought a very cherry 84 Warlock II bass. It was in time capsule condition, and probably 500+ less than it would have gone for on Ebay. Best thing about GC, 30 day return policy.

In person or online?

In person, check it over carefully, play it, make a lower offer and take it home. Inquire about their return policy. Pay with a credit card in case of a dispute.

Online, pretty much the same except for the first part. You do that after it arrives.

Guitar Center has it's many detractors, but they've always done right by me.

Oh yeah, good point, they will ship things to your local store. I often order on the phone with my local store, and go pick up when it arrives. This saves me both shipping and sales tax, as I pick up in Oregon. They might have a charge for shipping a used item, but you'd pay that anyway, and if it's not cool you can walk away or bargain for a discount.

Also, before you buy anything used from any retailer, check the TB classifieds.

I've bought two used basses from a local Guitar Center, the basses are fine and the transaction was easy. Both basses were in-store purchases.

I would. They have a 30 day return policy so there is nothing to worry about.

+1 you can't beat it nothing beats buying on in person and if it doesn't work out or you find out it needs work back she goes.

I bought one of the best basses I've ever owned, which is also the best p bass I've ever seen/heard at my local gc. It was used, about 4yrs old, I'm brand new 10/10 unplayed condition, with the original case, and every single piece of the case candy, brand new, still in the plastic. It was like buying a brand new bass. If they would've told me it was brand new I wouldn't have known otherwise until I checked the serial number. The price was EXCELLENT.

I'm about to buy a bass online from a guitar center and have it shipped to my local guitar center for pickup. The best part is the 30 day return policy

I have bought 3 used basses from Guitar Center in the past year or so. However, they have all been bought from stores not near me and then shipped to my local store. For some happy reason, they have all arrived in great shape, looking better than any of the used items in my local store. Perhaps conscientious employees clean 'em up before they leave NJ or FL or wherever. I've returned two of them for reasons of taste, not quality, and have had no problem doing so. I guess what I'm saying is that if you are OK with the price then it's not much of a gamble.
