Ah. Monterey Pop then?

No. But I keep in mind that some of the more "legendary" basses were modified and in many cases that's what made them legendary.

Yep, that'd be him, chugging away on his 64 Jazz into those glorious Marshall stacks.

nothing extreme, maybe redo the electronics or throw in a high mass bridge or something at most

I would consider buying an inexpensive bass and try modding it just for experimentation but would not use it for one of my main basses.

I realize that but what happens if I don't like the sound of the replacement pickups? Then I have to start over and buy more pickups. That's why I don't buy anything if I don't like the way it sounds within a couple of minutes of playing it.

I thought all legendary basses had already been modded by their legendary owners. and that's a part of why they are legendary. I'm old so bear with me. One of my favorite and funkiest rock bass players ever Mel Schacher of GFR took a Fender JB and added a mudbucker near the neck. That bass kicked, distorted, growled, etc. Listen to their live album Grand Funk Live to see what I mean.

How can one mod the Mothman when one is not even worthy to look upon it?

I watched a YouTube vid of it the other day. The owner (not sure if it's the current owner) claims it's 20+ pounds!

I modded my Rick 4002 to put a push-pull on the neck volume control so I could have the option of the inline .01 capacitor in or out. Expanded the tonal palette significantly. Easy switchback if desired.

Don't point. It can't be played.

I found the vid. In doing so, I also found a bass player whose skills may be inferior to mine (at last). He seems to favor the E and A strings and that's it.

I would mod the Mothman with a blowtorch, chainsaw, axe, gun, or any other destructive object I could get my hands on.

The problem is that the Mothman is made of pure evil and would convince you to use these tools on yourself.

You: Perhaps I should remove the frets
Mothman: No. Perhaps you should take those and remove your fingernails!

You: Maybe I'll swap out the electronics. Let me grab the soldering iron.
Mothman: I think that soldering iron should be used on your face instead.

I think owning the Mothman turns you into that guy from Red Dragon. You end up with a huge tattoo of the Mothman on your back and eat sheet after sheet of Megadeth tabs.

Now I finally know what the infamous mothman sounds like...

The sound of evil is not a growl. It's Dave Mustaine.
