Yamaha BB1200 at the Pawn Shop

Went down to my local pawn shop and saw a natural Finnish neck thru BB1200. Neck was in good shape and straight, body had some mojo on the bottom side. The input jack was cutting out so didnt get too much of a tone feel for it. I takes them down from 300 to 125 and told them I'll come back for it. What's the word on these basses, considered good P bass copies.

They're awesome. $125 is a steal. I have a BB800 and a BB1000... Both were my main basses at one time and either one is what I generally pick up at home to record with.

I'd consider paying even $300 if it was a vintage or finish that I like. Great P bass copy, longtime favorite of mine, also played by Paul McCartney once upon a time.

My main bass is a 1979 BB1200 and it is a tone machine! $125 and a little work is definitely a steal! A refined P Bass with sustain and a 3D tone for days! Go buy that thing.

Cool! Also, I check out the end of the truss rod. It looks like its a nut instead of a hex. What's it on your basses?

Great price. They usually go for 5x that at least. It's a fantastic bass with a powerful reverse p-bass pup. I've attached the Yamaha parts list/wiring diagram for you and other 800,1000,1200 owners. BTW, requires an 8mm wrench for truss rod adjustments. Yes, they are like a P-Bass on steroids! Sound very nice with D'Addario Chromes even if you don't like flats. I have the active pup version which is the 1200S.

Great news! I'm gonna swing by first thing in the AM to grab it. Going to get the wiring in order and see about trading it for a jazz. Lets get some feelers going :-)

Hahaha! Just not really a P guy. I'm a fan if the Duck Dunn tone, and that Motown thud. But I don't do much of that.

That's the jewel for $125. KEEPER!

I bet you will find yourself in a bit of a pickel when you get that Yammy working properly and find out what a great bass it is!
Looking forward to the pics!

Buy it, even at 300. And especially because you bargained with the guy then walked... that's not exactly bargaining in good faith.

either way you're robbing the guy at that price. Get it!

kenstee 01-07-2013 11:36 AM

Sell it? At your own risk...once you get it up to snuff and play it it will become your "go to."

Alex1984 01-07-2013 11:45 AM

GET IT NOW! The BB series are really great basses.

JimiLL 01-07-2013 12:52 PM

Trade for a jazz? Lame-o

you can get plenty big sounding with one of those yamis

JSandbloom 01-07-2013 07:38 PM
