I have an older ThunderBolt 6 that differs pretty greatly with my PentaBuzz in a lot of ways other than the obvious fret deal. I have volume blend tone versus the active NTMB and a Barrel saddle bridge. The soap bars are voiced more Middy than the PentaBuzz P/J and the bridge sustains less than the PB/TBass/MVP Bridge which is my favorite, by the way. I love the roller side to side adjustable saddles! That said, you can expect a more modern tone out of the soapbars with a not quite as fat bottom. That could be a little off with the newer active preamp but overall, I think it would be more modern. I have never played a Pedulla I didn't like, period. The only thing I've never liked about the Yamahas, is the edge distance of the G or C strings. Way too close for me. Was always a deal breaker for me. They play very nicely and have good tone! I just think a Pedulla is a better made, fit and executed bass. They all feel and play so nice.
