Yamaha BX-1 (blast from the past)

Hey,

A guitar player, I just bought my first bass, the Yamaha BX-1. I see there are some other BX-1 threads here (in fact I made the purchase in part because of the positive reviews on one) but they seem a bit old so I thought I'd better start this one to ask this simple question about that pushy-pushy tone control: when pushed, stuff happens, but the switch itself doesn't "click" and whatever it's doing to the tone seems to be un-done when it's no longer pushed. Wondered if anyone has any experience with one of these. Is it supposed to register some tactile feedback when pushed, as in a positive "click"? If so, and it's not, how to fix? Not sure replacing it is a possibility due to availability or lack thereof.

incidentally, for anyone interested: plugging the bass into my laptop and listening through Ableton Live 8, it sounds just excellent -- I was very favorably surprised by the tone. And the instant I picked it up I liked the feel of it. I've wanted a headless bass for a number of reasons, some that make sense (small, lightweight) others that don't (just dig them). Just took it home today but very happy I did.

thanks in advance

The push switch has a very soft feel to it, yours is just fine. When pushed in the pickups are humbucking with a fatter, more pronounced midrange tone; when the switch is in the out position the pickup are single coil and have a more hi-fi like tone to them, I usually keep the switch on my BX-1 in the singlecoil position (I used to own a BX-5, I bought it new in 1987).

thx for the reply. but the thing is, the tone only changes as long as I'm actually *pressing* the switch. The instant I take my hand off of it, it reverts to a skinnier tone.

It's not such a big deal, but there is a part of me that wants it to work like it should.

In that case the switch is broken. They are readily available (pot/switch assembly) from the usual suspects.
