From 1993 on (during which years I was not playing for most of the time), I've owned three different TRB5Ps, and one TRB4P with Bartolini pickups.
These original TRBXP basses are MARVELOUS instruments, and I'll probably have one again at some other time. The workmanship and playability are incredible, but I go back and forth on the sound - it's an inherently aggressive sound which I have not found pleasing at times, although there can be surprising variation from sample to sample. The original Yammie electronics can also be noisy when you push the J -pickup and the treble, although your need to do so may be reduced by working with the piezo pickup. But I've never played one on which the notes didn't "center" nicely or on which there were any dead spots. Truly one of the most important bass designs of all time. |

I'm very interested in picking up a TRB1005. However, I'm really picky about string spacing. I'm currently playing a MTD Kingston 5 with a string spacing of 19mm @ bridge and 9mm @ nut. From what I've heard so far, the 1005 spacing at the bridge is 18mm which is pretty good. Can any 1005 owners please let me know of the nut spacing?
Thanks in advance! |

I had Melvin sign the back of the headstock. Mine is a TRB6II in transluscent blue. It's my favorite bass I've had the pleasure of owning, and I currently am awaiting a natural TRB1005. I offered to trade it to him for his Ken Smith MD7. He just kind of smiled ~ I think he thunk I was kidding |

| | | | Question on pickup Dear TRB owners!
The pickups on the TRB-s which look like humbuckers according to size... are they humbuckers, or singles with a dummy coil?
Thanks!

It's a bit heavy but it's tone is really versatile and solid. Since it's also my father's gift, I am very sure that I will keep it with my life! |
