condsidering its a bolt-on, you could just do the face of the headstock and leave the back of the neck natural satin/gloss.

already planning to do this (as at some point somebody removed the orignal finish)...but if i was gonna go black on white...then i would want black binding too...and again the neck is bound in white (If it ain't broke don't fix it)

Hard Candy Rootbeer?

something you would never see on a Ric....
Nice find. Rootbeer or bronze maybe? I like the idea of an unlikely Ric color.

Great find at an even better price!

The wavy tuners and distinctly un-Rick like bridge pick up probably makes this a Matsumoku made bass. Pop the TRC and you'll most likely find dual truss rods.

Root beer sounds awesome. That's a candy brown, right?

A translucent-burst brown might be killer, too.. like a root beer-glo!

White binding, chrome hardware, matching head... yeah.

Or a metal flake green. Like an old Kustom tuck & roll head.

I'm subbing this thread because I'm psyched to see what you do with this.

P.S. if you ever get bored or sidetracked and want to get rid of it...

just ordered some binding from Stew Mac....but everything else is on hold....i found a small crack in the neck where the nut slides in over the truss rod....Neck is going to a local expert to see if it can be salvaged...

but at this point i'm leaning towards the american flag motif or the shelby blue with racing stripe and a cobra logo...

planning on the hipshot bridge and the Duncan pups with the pickguardian after market surround...

but waiting to find out about the neck....fairly sure it can be fixed with some good glue and a clamp

Just an observation on that darker wood layer. It looks a lot like Nato which is a type of Asian mahogany. I have no particular observations about the quality or desirability of Nato. Just thought it might be an intriguing tidbit.
