Your Favorite Cheap Bass? I definitely love my Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Short Scale Bass, its comfortable, fits perfect, and just feels right when I play! But most of all I loved the price only $180! Lookin' to invest money into another cheap but quality bass! |
Danelectro Dano 63 short scale. LOVE it! Hofner Icon violin bass. LOVE LOVE it! |
Bogdon cardboard box bass! |
I love my Jag SS too. Also my $90 Ibanez GSR200. Its become my #1. |

I cobbled together a bass from the cheapest parts I could find on eBay once. The neck, of course was a disaster. I filed, leveled and it was still junk, as it twisted under tension. So I yanked the frets and epoxied the Fboard. The thing sang like crazy! I ended up giving it to a good friend's son, as I had no use for it beyond the experiment. That was almost 10 years ago. I think he's still playing it. |
I have two SX Jazz 5-strings. While the B string isn't great on either, they are great basses overall for the coin. |
My Starcaster Jazz Bass is my favorite bass! My Squier Affinity P-Bass comes in a close 2nd place too. At my last band practice I played the Starcaster through an Ampeg stack and the sound was AMAZING! It's strung with old GHS Pressurewounds too :D |

Cort GB75 (especially whiteblonde finished ones) aren't cheap basses at all! I can't imagine what basses brands you own to consider it "cheap" Cheers, Wallace |
I love my cheap SG parts basses. I get an Epiphone EBO body and then I get other parts off of the internet and for $200 to $300 I can build a cool bass. ![]() ![]() |

Do they still make SX jazz basses i've checked their site and ebay and couldn't find not one! All i see are the ursa series basses! |
My '93 MIK Fender Precision is currently my main bass and only cost me $130 when I bought it used! |
I have an Aria Pro II "The Cat" fretless. Previous owner converted it from active to passive, and put Basslines pups in it. It sings like mad, even unplugged. I got it in trade for an EHX Micro Q-Tron pedal that I paid 35 bucks for. Only problem is, like every fretless I've ever played, the intonation is horrible ;) |
I just LOVE my MIA Fender P5. It's cheap compared to a NYC Sadowsky. |

Building a parts bass can take a few weeks or a few years. |
This is by far my favorite cheap bass, though it wasn't so cheap when I was done with it.:D |
I've been happy so far with my Affinity Jazz bass. It's solid and took a good setup without too much hassle. A p bass is next on my list, and I played a Vintage Modified version yesterday. Wouldn't bother me at all to have that one be the one I get. |
My favorite cheapie: ![]() Dillion 5204, copy of a 54 P., done pretty well, except for the 14" radius. It needs some fret leveling when I change the strings next time, but right now it's got the same set of Chromes that I put on when she first arrived last February. When I finally decide to change them, I'll level all the frets and get rid of all the buzzing. Right now it buzzes like crazy on almost every fret. I've checked it with a fret rocker, and there's definitely some work to be done, but it plays well enough for my living room. |
