My CB is my most expensive and my best player. My Roscoe fretless is a very close second.
I've also had two other Roscoes, an Indonesia Lakland, Ibanez and a Peavey Cirrus. |

| | | | I answered yes, but only because I like the string spacing of my Stingray 5 better than the string spacing of my Fenders. |

The B string is so tight and focused it's unbelievable. A Sadowsky five I played last week was a pretty close contender, but I dunno. |

I dig all my basses but my very best player is probably my least expensive--a 1997-98 Fender Precision Lyte Deluxe that I picked up for a song. My most expensive bass is a 2012 AVRI '62 Precision...also a great player, but it has that delicate nitro finish so it stays in the case a lot. My very best-playing jazz bass ATM is a 2011 MIM tone monster, go figure.

I also have a 2008 American Standard P that I love, and a Lakland Skyline 55-02, which I thought was amazing until the Sadowsky came along. I still really like that bass, though.
Thing is, I honed stuff down until I only had basses I really like, so I no longer have anything that I find ho-hum. |

| | | | I answered 'no'.
I feel my VM 70's Squier plays better than my MIM Antigua.
The Squier was a third of the price of the Fender.
I love the Antigua, just like the feel of the VM a bit more.
It bothered me at first, the fact the Fender was not my true love.
Something in my brain says It should be my #1, but it is not. |

I know it may sound a bit obvious but it's only since I've stopped playing as much that I've had time to evaluate all this rather than just grabbing gear and heading out the door...
As a result I have re-discovered a treasure and also found a problem with my main axe...
oh, so in realtion to the question... my most expensive bass is now my best playing bass The recent setup took it from not so comfortable.. to slick butter heaven bass of the gods! yay |

However, my Human Base actually has a nicer feel to it when playing. Alembic's tend to be a little stiff and quite heavy... especially a newer one. That said, I voted yes! |

However, my other basses are great, but dont suit that live style as well. Its hard to say there is one bass that is the 'best player'. If any of my basses werent good players, I would no longer own them.

Although in fairness, even if your not a fan of the tone, I think any wooden neck will struggle in terms of evenness and playability when compared to a well set-up carbon-fibre neck. |

That's not to say that my Fender P's or other basses are dogs either, but the above basses do edge them out.

| | | | A big yes....but then all of my basses are great players. But the two most "expensive" ones are hands down for me the best. Got two Fender American Standards Jazz basses; a 2011 5 string and a 2012 4 string and both feel like they were made for me. I tried them all from the Squire line on up and these were the best. But in all fairness there were some pretty good players I also found along the way. I remember one MIM P bass in particular I tried that was great!! But for me the Standards were the best. Well worth every penny.
Got to give special mention to my MIJ Fender 70's P bass and to my SR505 as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
