Yup, Spector Euro Wimbish all day! Beats my Warwick Corvette, Fender Jazz, and Ernieball Musicman Sterling. The least favorite is the Musicman.

In my case Yes. I guess with most Fender players is doesn't get much better than an American Standard. (Jazz for me)

I voted "NO", but on a good day, it can be. My Alembic 5-string DEFINITELY has the best tone and flexibility of all my instruments, but it is very intolerant of bad technique. So if I'm feelin' it on any particular day, it plays awesome. But if I'm not on top of it, it'll tell on me. Mistakes will ring out clearly. In particular, sloppy muting will come across loud and clear.

The instrument does its part.....the neck feels fine, the balance is right, the action is exactly where I like it. If I were to order it again today, I might make the string spacing a little wider.

By contrast, my Music Man Sabres and my Marchlewski 5-string are all very forgiving instruments and they play how they play, which is very good. That's why I still have them.

I plan on keeping one bass per style (string/fret setup). If I like the sound or playability of something else with the same number of strings and with/without frets, I'll switch. The only exception might be a short-scale. In that case, I'd probably get a shorty with a different tuning, say high-4 (ADGC) fretted.

So my most expensive bass would probably end up being something like a Carvin, should I end up wanting a 7-string fretless. Can't imagine buying a 4003 because they're so heavy and for me, uncomfortable compared to so many others.

Next one I'm looking for is a 34" 4-string fretted, probably an inexpensive Peavey 4 AC BXP. Right price, nice look, local hardware (Hipshot is right up the road from me... literally.) It will be my best playing 4-string fretted bass, because it will be my only one unless I decide to change up for something.

Currently, I'm playing my Geddy Lee Jazz more than I play my Modulus Flea 5....

I've got a 1987 MIJ Fender P that I bought new. Kept it as my one and only for years. Then I bought an '06 Fender Aerodyne Jazz that got all my love for the first few months. They are both great basses IMHO. I swapped back to the P a couple months ago and the Aerodyne has been on break. The Aerodyne has a wonderful neck on it but my old P just does it for me. I gave $400 for the P and $800 for the Aerodyne.

As of now, my most expensive is my luthier-made fretless Jazz, but my best player is my MIJ Squier P, don't get me wrong, the construction, finish and sound of the fretless is "better" than the Squier, but it gets less playing because it is a fretless.

My most expensive bass is my 77' Jazz. I like my Frankenbass with the Warmoth fretless neck much better.

I'd have to say NO

I've owned many high cost basses over the years; Warwick Thumbs, Warwick Streamers, Spector Euro's, Status's and top end Ibanez SR's, but for me personally I utterly love the tone, neck and feel of my Gibson Thunderbirds.

Haha,Like others have said above...The Rickenbacker never got played,so I sold it last month. I disliked that thing for many reasons.(The tooth pick neck being the main)I'd say the Warwick $$ is the nicest in both tone and playability and has every tone option imaginable, with the Fender Am dlx P coming in second, then the MM Stingray, but sold that one also with the Rik.I have to give props to the MM Sterling(sold it too),I almost think it had better tone and more tonal options than the Ray did,but it had the small neck which I don't like anymore.

My most expensive is my '01 American Jazz, and it does outplay my '87 Jazz Bass Special---but not by much.

My Rickenbacker 4003 only cost $100 more than my Alembic Epic did ($1600 vs $1500 respectively) but I still play it far more.

Yes and no. When released my SR 1305PD was more expensive, but it cost me less than half the original price, and that's my main bass (I only have that one and a Fender P Bass which I'm trying to get rid off now)

CARVIN!

I have a Carvin LB70 with 18V active electronics. It beats anything I have ever played.

I have 2 curbow petite basses - one fretted one fretless. They were both very expensive. They play well and sound great. I play a beat up Hofner 500/1 from the '60s and a early '70s Pbass 90% of playing.
