Zon Standard Series.... where's the love / hype
Couple of threads here and there.... but I can't find but a few posts here and there from actual owners posting opinions. Time was Joe Zon was on record everywhere as saying he would "NEVER" do an import line, and I'm sure there are a lot of folks jonesing for a more affordable Zon.
One person who's opinion I trust said they felt the import line was just too far away from what he's come to know as a Zon bass... speaking not just about the wood necks, but the vastly different pups and electronics, different neck profile and overall flavor... and that in his opinion Lakland remains the King of luxury import basses on account of the major difference between them and thier USA counterparts is simply the refinements in workmanship and being otherwise basically the same instrument. He also said the gossamer thin top on his sonus was "kinda insulting" when there were thicker, higher quality and better looking tops on offer from basses in the $300 price range.
I for one am seriously looking into a Legacy Standard and am interested in more opinions... but these seem to not have generated the buzz that one would think they would have, considering how how the Brubaker Brutes and other recent import versions from luxury US makers are.
Too much gear, too little skillz.....
