I registered, now how do I post?
First, make sure that you're logged in. If you are logged in, it'll say "Welcome, *username*" at the top-right of the screen. If you are not logged in, you will see a login form there.

Next, navigate to a specific subforum that is suited to your topic (such as Amps or Strings). You will then see a "new thread" graphic near the top-left of the screen.

To post to an existing thread, click into the thread, then hit the "post reply" button.

How do I add pictures to my posts?
There are two ways to add a picture to your post. The first and best way, is an available option when the image is already on the web somewhere. If this is the case, grab the URL of the image (in most browsers, right-click on the image, then "copy image location"). Then, in your post, paste in that URL, and wrap it with [img] tags. So for example:

[img]http://www.somesite.com/someimage.jpg[/img]

This will display your image "in-line" - that is, it will appear full size, in your post exactly where you put the URL.

The second method is to upload image attachments to your post. This takes up space in your attachment quota (which is larger for Supporting Members), and the images will appear as small thumbnails beneath your post. A user can click the thumbnails to get the full size version.

To upload an attachment to your post, below where you type your post text there is an optioned labled "manage attachments". Follow the instructions there to upload your images. Note the size (filesize and dimension size) restrictions on uploaded images.

Given the fact that there is no size restriction on 'linked' images vs 'uploaded' images, and given that linked images appear full size in the post, this is the preferred method of including pictures in your post. There are websites out there like PhotoBucket.com which will host your images for you at no cost.

How do I add an avatar?
Avatars are small images next to your username. Avatars are only available to Supporting Members of TalkBass. If you are a Supporting Member, click My TalkBass -> Edit Avatar to upload your avatar.

Why can't I stay logged in?
If you get errors that you don't have permission to do something, even after you've logged in, you're probably getting logged out. To fix this, first clear your browser's cookies. Then, when you log into TalkBass, make sure that you have cookies enabled in your browser, and also make sure that you have the "REMEMBER ME?" box checked when you log in.

How do I search TalkBass?
The built-in forum search for TalkBass will search for ALL of the words you enter in ANY order. There is no way to use "+" or "-" operators, or a "PHRASE MATCH" search, or wildcards (*) with the built-in search engine.

Also, note that search results may not be in a perfect order by date. It will be close and fairly chronological (unless you sort your results by "relevance" rather than "date" in advanced search options).

If you want to use complex operators (like you can with Google), use the TalkBass Google Search! With the Google Search option, you can use any operators like + or - and "total phrase matching" with quotes, and wild cards (*), and any other Google search tricks.

Remember, an Advanced Search will likely give you the best results, if you for example select "search thread titles only" and limit your search to a specific forum!
