- Basses 1) black explorer shaped- Hondo maple P style neck 1 p style pu. This bass typical 1st action sucked etc... replaced by 2) Electra-Westone black 1 p style pu did all my 1st band stuff first gigs with this wish I still had it! 3)Sparkle green Aria Pro II w/2 humbuckers @ lots of switches neck through . Tubby never sounded like Cliff Burton... I recorded 1st time with this bass not happy. 4) Hohner "The Jack" headless all wood Steinberger design. This bass pretty good during my skinny string Geddy Lee days. Oddly enough this bass was smashed on stage(see below)then reassembled and sold for a good price. Tough bass after I found all the pieces. 5) Kawai graphite neck.p/j emgs. This was my first nice bass the Koa body was I think 1 piece never could find a seam but..... It sounded bad -compressed and thin tinny was also uncomfortable on the shoulder. It was intense frustration with this bass that led to little Entwistle moment...see above. 6)Modulus Graphite Q5 blue to purple sunburst over quilt maple. My first 5 string and just an awsome bass. Armed w/ EMG j style pups This would become my main bass from '88-'89 to 2001 .
