Now, as for players I personally know and have been aided/inspired by, the 3 big ones are
-My Dad
-My Uncle Mark

-My former worship minister Bill

My dad exposed me to a lot of interesting bass music as well as taught me the basics. Mark taught me how to perform more advanced techniques (slap/pop, tap, etc). Bill, by making me play in many different band settings, caused me to mesh my fundamentals and my showy playing into a useful, solid groove which made me a well rounded bassist.
