I think John Paul Jones had it right when he said "well, I suppose all the music I ever listened to has been an influence."
As far as particularly inspiring bassists, those who most made me want to play the instrument myself were Tony Levin, Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, and Duck Dunn.
