Ok,
So after going over the bass pretty good and deciding it is workable as a project to make as good a bass as possible from it. Here are a few pics.
Here is the fretboard after some polishing with 2K grit paper.
This was done to just highlight the high spots. I set the board as level as possible with a long straighedge and then just gently polished the surface. If I was not so picky it would play as is. A sanding with some 1.5K grit paper should even it out.
