Any Good Bass Shops in Houston ?

I might be passing through Houston Tx. for a day or so and wondered if there are any cool Bass Shops were I can check out some of the newer gear like Techamps and Genz Benz stuff ??? Maybe some cool basses too.

Hopefully some Houston TBers respond, but if not, hit the Yellow Pages, or Google. Make a few calls to see who has what in stock instead of driving all over, as Houston covers a lot of ground. Make a list of stores that sound interesting, then Mapquest them to get exact locations.

Lived in Houston for about 8 months and the only place worth checking is Bass Emporium in Austin.

There was a cool little store that had a pretty nice selection and also sold surfboards, but ridiculously overpriced on new & used bass gear...can't recall the name of that place though.

^ He's talking about Rockin Robin, over on Shepard. They put the retail price on all their stuff so to get a deal there you have to haggle a bit.But it can be done.

Nobody in town carries Techamps, but Rockin Robin does have Genz Benz.

Another decent place is Fuller's Vintage Guitar. They usually have a nice variety of Fenders, some cool Rickenbachers,a few Epiphone/Gibson products, and some old Kay uprights.Usually they have some nice acoustic bass guitars too.Not very high end in amplification tho.

There are three Guitar Centers in town, with the Westhimer store having the most bass equipment. The Westhimer store is right down the street from Evans Music City.I cant say what Evans has as I've not been there in ages. Also,if you go to the Westhiemer GC,go during school hours. It tends to be a zoo once school is out.

The guitar Center north store is across the freeway (45 north) from Texas Music Emporium. Can't say what they have, but if you are on the northside going to GC you might as well check it out.

Rich L is right about going to Austin and checking out Bass Emporium. Also check out Austin Bass Traders.

Big String - PM me if you need any help finding these places.Houston is a big mother but pretty easy to get around in with a little help.

L

That place is Rockin' Robin on Shepherd. Might check out Fuller's on Yale. Or go by and see Bud LeCompte.

Thanks Everyone.
I did google for a bit but didn't come up with much.
I am going to Austin for a day or so but probably won't have time to go to Bass Emporium which is on my list .. dang.

I really wanted to hear a Techamp .. probably a good thing anyway ...

The American distributor of TecAmp equipment lists Austin Bass Traders as a dealer. See http://www.osiamo.com/tecamp/TecAmp-...4Pa38Ta38Sbx50

I bought a bass at Fullers, and it's a great place to visit. They have a lot of Fenders. They have a huge acoustic guitar and upright bass selection. But I don't think they have much of a bass amp selection. Try Parker's. It's on 45N inside the Beltway near Fry's.
